Here is a little list of things that are helpful to me when I am writing for Baldur's Gate. I'm partially putting this here for myself to make it easier to find and for anyone who might stumble in here looking for help.

  • Map of Faerûn

The city of Baldur's Gate is in the continent Faerûn. The planet is named Toril. This map shows other sub-continents like Kara-Tur/Zakhara. Technically Faerun is the name of the sub-continent but I call it Faerun as it is the most known one to not confuse people.

Here is the link to the high-res version. This doesn't mean much as it is so low-res you can hardly read anything. The high res one has the names and places cities, towns, forests etc all marked. And it is on a hexagonal base. After reading some comments on the map I accept one hexagon to be about 15 miles long.

  • The Calendar of Harptos

There are different ways to tell time in Faerun, almost everyone uses this calendar to tell time. One year is 365 days long. Weeks are called tendays and they indeed are comprised of ten days. Each month has 3 tendays and the extra 5 days comes from the annual holidays. Which are days between months. There is also a quadrennial holiday for the leap day which is celebrated every four years. Here is the link to the post with more information.

This one is marked for the date of the crash of the nautiloid.

  • The time of the crash

Talking about the calendar brings us to the time of the crash which is 20 Eleasis 1492 DR.

Basically the last days of August equivalent in Faerûn. Which I guess also explains why there is never any rain during the game. xD

This is it for now. I'll be updating this page as I discover more general world building information for fic writing or your general curiosity!
